Slider,
I'm not really familiar with the Elijah list etc. What did spring out, at least to me, was that after Saddam...then what? Look what happened after the Shah. I believe there would be a good chance some radical fundamentalist factions could eventually take over the region. As proven before, we're very quick to underestimate a region. If we're going to take Saddam out, let's at least have a game plan. I fear the US is just not ready for the aftermath. As evil as he is, Saddam has kept his country fairly stable. What happens when he's gone...to the people...to the region...to our own security? Do we know? Do we care? Are we ready? My gut feeling is that after Hussein is out, it is only a matter of time before yet another region comes under heavy oppression because of fundamentalist factions.
Finally, years ago when Communism at its height was a threat, Richard Wurmbrand (A Romanian Jew-Christian who spent 13 years in prison by the communists for his beliefs) said Islamic Fundamentalism is our greatest threat. He was and he is right. Saddam is NOT an Islamic fundamentalist.
