Martin Kramer questions the proponents of Arab democracy. From his recent Address to the 2002 Weinberg Founders Conference:

I finally found a copy of Kramer's book in which he trashes Said. I thought it something of a hatchet job. However, this essay is very well done. Particularly, as you might guess I would think, it's focus on civil society. I do agree with the overall argument that it's not enough to wish for the best; one must protect from the worst. The present situation in Algeria is yet another illustration of the difficulties of holding democracy and Islamism together.

Thanks.
