Despite your inability to post a complete Web site address, you are correct on the fact that the National Archives lists the presidential election of 2000 as Al Gore 50,996,582 and GWB 50,456,062. My figures were based on an 11-25-00 story in USA Today, which showed Bush at around 50.1 million and GWB at 300,000 less. Obviously, this figure did not include absentees, which were counted later and became part of the official count.

Having said that, I retract nothing. Simply change every 50 million reference to 50.5 million.

Only two presidential candidates ever garnered more than 50.5 million votes:

1. Ronald Reagan
2. Al Gore

Have a nice day.
