North Korea is not a case for pre-emption today because they have nukes and Chinese patronage. So the North Koreans are abandoned to their fate and the Cold War continues on the Korean peninsula, since deterrence cuts both ways. Fortunately, the Korean peninsula is not vitally strategic for us, though Japan cannot say the same.

Do you regard this as such an optimal solution that you would recommend it for the Persian Gulf, which is vitally strategic for us?

And what was the cost of "hoping for the best" and employing containment? Well, we are still here today, aren't we?

Curious how the same people who loathed "MAD" as morally abhorrent while it was operating now are all for it in retrospect, don't you think?
