You suspended me during the heyday of the mtei thread and the death threats and all ... and quite unfairly it was too ... perhaps i got a little, um, carried away -g- ... still, i did manage to attract this interest from the pumpsters - #reply-4963438 .... i still remember that afternoon, a friend was over with his family and i was talking up the internet to him, as a medium for finding things like useful data and focussed intelligence, he was looking over my shoulder as i clicked on that PM .... he did get on the net shortly after that, doesn't post on any board sites though, to my knowledge

One thing i was impressed with there, was the extent to which a number of those sucked into mtei, and who had posted vociferously on its thread in support of the PoS, demonstrated considerable character development subsequently .... can't remember their logins now, but there were several, some of whom took that trip in which it was noted that the outfit had clean bathrooms .... they weren't all scammy touts, some were decent people sucked into a crime, when faced with the truth they had the guts and the class to admit it .... you got to respect that ... same thing happened later with aznt, the poster Hogger i believe was one who came clean, jokes around with Janice now

The only answer to scams is education, imho .... the SEC is pretty weak down there, well it's just as bad up here with ten provincial jurisdictions and three territorial ones, all these borders and regulation differences get used by the crooks, i think the laws could get enforced a lot better [surely there is everywhere legislation against fraud, a/k/a lying for profit??], but the surest way is for the individual speculator to smarten up and realise that the only one who can effectively look out for his interests is himself

... and a good message board, with strong principles of free speech, can aid in that effort, the punter can find others in his position, share experiences and outlooks, find some answers but more importantly - find the crucial questions to ask .... SI is pretty much entirely like that now on the resource and canadian threads, nobody bullshits nobody, people can agree or disagree on particular points or companies, note the variance, and move on to rational discussion of something else .... very few if any in love with any specific PoS, hardly any carrying on stupid flame fests, less and less all the time as those types realise they don't belong on this net .... i haven't lurked all that many threads on iHub, but those i have seemed to demonstrate these same qualities, and i did catch Matt making clear sensible statements in favour of free and civil speech and against one-sided use of the delete function [with which i am still not entirely comfortable, fwiw], so it looks fine to me, so far ... the net grows up - this is good

Oh man, i see what you mean about them letting Uselton off - #reply-18121929 .. hadn't seen that .. not so much as a fine even, not a slapping of the wrist, barely a wag of the finger and mild suggestion to not do it again .. that's amazing, it's like a message that crime really does pay

While it's a one hundred per cent responsibility of the punter to educate himself against this sort of fraud, it's also the one hundred per cent responsibility of elected governments to discourage it, imho ... how can you call your society civilised while letting this stuff go on .... shoplifters get prosecuted for two-bit petty theft, and rightfully so, but put on a suit and steal millions and the powers that be just about offer taxpayers' money to cover your bloody expenses ... we're in the wrong business, obviously

'If ya don't know scams, ya don't know Jack', lol ...... geez eh
