"So if the system obligated me to pay 80% taxes or just turn my property over the government or perhaps kill myself I would have to willing support the idea?!?"

I guess if you thought it was just and fair then you would. If you think it was unjust and unfair then presumably you would seek the most pragmatic response to meet your interests. If I thought the taxation system was an unfair system I would say so (and often have as to certain details). I would not call it "just" and fair out of one side of my mouth while denouncing it from the other side. If I accepted that it was just and fair then I would support the obligations which attached to it. If I did not support the obligations that were attached to it, then I would admit that it was UNjust and UNfair. But you are able to consider it just and fair while not feeling obligated to it. I don't understand that. Apparently words may mean anything for some, and nothing for others. So be it.

So I could sell you a house and we could shake hands and sign the papers, and you could agree that the deal was just. And when I ask why I received no money even though you had taken possession, you could say: Well, I don't willingly support the obligations flowing from our just and fair deal. You will need to force me, Mr. Solon.

Personally, I don't believe you think that people are being justly taxed. I don't believe you do voluntarily pay them. I take you at your word. But I am 100% sure that people who feel that their tax bill IS justified...DO voluntarily pay them. I am 99.99999% certain of that.

Even many people who disagree on the exact details of the system will voluntarily pay them (usually)..simply because they recognize that attempting to equate justice with perfection is a hapless and irrational endeavor.

Again, I take you at your word that YOU do not voluntarily pay taxes, Tim. But you do not speak for me or for others...but only for yourself.
