Well, we were both kids who grew up watching the Vietnamese war on TV. An historical first.

Being a kid, i quickly identified USA as good guys. Commies bad guys. Propaganda works on children more then anyone.

I remember watching footage of the USA fighter bombers attacking the Ho Chi Minh trail. The trail was easily identified by the instantaneous spot of ground fire opening up on the jets as they swooped down to attack. Perfectly reflecting the flight path of the jet. There was that many guys on the ground. It looked like a real terrible dangerous situation to a child's eye.

Then there are the Buddists. Saw the footage of them setting themselves on fire. Maybe they ran from the Commies, but it wasn't necessarily a good idea.

Being a Catholic myself, I know the religion is up for some criticism, even dating back to the Borgias. When it comes to bad guys, we have some of the best (worst). The BBC did a series on the Borgias. Some family.

Ho Chi Minh was a charming, extremely intelligent politician who talked about his admiration of democracy to Americans, and his admiration of communism to the Soviets and Chinese.

Maybe Ho was reaching out for help?
