<<...Suggestions for "Contain Saddam"....?????
Yes....we're all waiting to hear all those good suggestions...

No one is forcing us to go to war...there will be UNINTEDED CONSEQUNCES...Are you willing to send your brother or sister over to Iraq to overthrow a regime and occupy a country while we attempt to successfully engineer some Nation Building..?? Brent Scowcroft may be right that we would be stirring up a hornets nest in the Middle East and possibly make things much worse for many of our allies in the region...we also could disrupt our global War on Terrorism....There are various ways to apply additional pressure on Saddam and disarm him...we are currently working through the U.N. and soon weapons inspectors will be returning -- if the Security Council solidly backs the weapons inspectors' new initiative we may see some productive disarmament...None of us like Saddam but but I feel its up to the Iraqi people to overthrow their leader (we can help train and equip the resistance and we are ramping up our efforts to do that)...this is part of 'containment'...Our sanctions on Iraq have been counter-productive as we have hurt the innocent Iraqi people and reduced their capacity to resist Saddam...We should avoid war at all costs and view it as a last resort though...Americans have a great stake in containing Saddam Hussein's aggressive instincts and deterring his use of weapons of mass destruction. But we do not have good reasons to justify occupying Iraq and staying there as long as necessary to remake it in our image. The U.S. government is going to realize that reality sooner or later. Better to do so before we jump into the quagmire....=)
