"A liberal is a conservative who hasn't been mugged yet."

There's a lot of truth in that, and I'm sure it's why many liberals grow more conservative with experience. Reality mugs one.

Our car was stolen once. We can't live without a car here, and at the time had no money. I wanted to kill the guy with my own hands. Well, car.

Speaking of cars, the headline on Drudge is

ALL WHITE VANS SEARCHED AFTER LATEST SHOOTING

I made a joke post, but actually it's not a joke.

If it's wrong to profile for race, religion, gender, ethnicity, culture in seeking to identify terrorists (who are highly likely fit a particular profile), why isn't it wrong to profile for a white car? Why should the innocent owners of white vans be singled out?

I'm outraged that they don't stop and inspect red VW's and yellow cabs just as much as white vans. It's no excuse that a white van has been associated with the shootings.

Can anybody tell me the difference in principle between racial/ethnic/age/gender etc profiling when looking for Al Qaeda members and vehicular profiling when looking for a sniper?

What would Minetta say was the difference?
