Al Quaeda is "mad" at the US because of our mideast involvement, supporting the only democracy in the region and our presence in the Muslim holy lands.....they were obviously grateful for US non-intervention in post war Afghanistan....and your suggestion that Afghanistan would be better off under the thumb of the repressive Soviets and their puppet regime.....well.....that just says it all about you, doesn't it?

Your post doesn't make much sense. If we could not buy the good will of the militants by helping them eject the infidel, there is no reason to suppose we would be protected by attention to the Soviets. At some point, in some form, a terrorist group would come for us.......
