The Afghan situation, IMO, is another example of the law of unintended consequences. The globe is littered with problem areas were we intervened with good intentions, but the local people didn't act in the way we wanted them to. Somehow not everybody in the world thinks we are a kind and benevolent Uncle Sammy.
