>> Why does the left scream about Ashcroft violating the constitution but actually refuse to teach the children the constitution and indeed the history of the country they grew up in ?

The bleeding hearts and artists. It's more important to teach our children about Islam and the Koran that our own founding principles. A sad state of affairs, indeed.

You are using some cartoon composite strawman of "liberal".

It's not either-or. Ashcroft has been attempting to violate the Constitution and maintaining "national security" shadow government under orders from the Executive Branch. He's been rebuffed on some occasions, but with legislation like the Patriot Act, the powers further create an all-powerful central government, not beholden to public scrutiny.

I don't know who you are referring to that refuse to teach children the constitution, but it ain't the average American liberal, you may be falling for Limbaugh's cartoon version.

That's like saying every conservative is like Ann Coulter.

As far as the education system in general, I have to agree it has seriously declined. I saw my old high school math teacher last week, still teaching, now at college at the age of 70, and I asked, "how are the kids doing these days?", expecting the worst. He diplomatically said, "they just aren't prepared as they used to be...". That's certainly my impression as an employer hiring 20-something computer engineers. Only a fraction of the applicants exhibit the facility for "the hard stuff" that takes discipline, in the math and engineering area. Fewer still understand current events beyond the cartoon version presented by the media.

I put part of the cause to excessive bureaucracy, which by nature grows to absorb all dollars available for useless self-justifying "administrators", rather than producing the output it was supposed to. There are more friggin' administrators in my old school district than in all of the county's districts put together in the old days.

Fire 90% of the administrators, let qualified teachers teach, allow discipline problems to be removed and referred to their parents, and suddenly the community will respect the school and parents will get more involved.
