But while we were downstairs having breakfast, the maid went into the room we'd vacated and saw the knobless furniture, and thought the knobs had been swiped by the people who'd just left, us, and called the manager. That was where I stuck. It had to be the people just before you. Or it was a scam. I figured scam was more probable. And if they charged it on your credit card, you could end up in your-word-against-theirs situation. They might count on the credit card companies believing the merchants more often. Am I too paranoid? Or is there such a thing?
