I never travel these days without a candy bar, a bottle of water, and often other snacks. Most people who fly to Louisville fly Southwest, which never had food beyond peanuts or some similar snack. One time I was at a deposition in Alabama someplace which ran late and I raced to the airport to barely catch a Southwest flight back home. The flight was stopping in Louisville (no deplaning) and then continuing on to Chicago. I hadn't eaten in seven hours, which for me is an eternity. I was also dying of thirst because I had sprinted across the rental car lot and then through the terminal to catch the flight.

I looked at the stewardess and told her I was thirsty and starving. She gave me four packs of peanuts and two Diet Cokes with lots of ice, before she served anyone else. I finished them all within minutes. Even though it's low frills, I love that airline.

Now even the major airlines are not feeding you, sometimes even on West Coast flights. The worst thing is that people bring pizza or McDonald's fries on the plane from the terminal, and the smell can just drive you nuts. The one exception has been Midwest Express, a tiny but wonderful high frills airline based in Milwaukee, which has all biz class seating and much better food than other airlines. This week even they sent me an email that they are cutting back their usual hot meal on almost every flight service due to the times.
