The relevant clause is: the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Period. The only limitation is what constitutes a reasonable personal arm, as contemplated in the amendment. Pistols are okay, as are rifles, but not automatic weapons or flame throwers....

I see no evidence of that
The evidence is in the fact that they mention militias at all. The Bill of Rights was more tightly constructed than the Constitution itself and it makes no sense to assume they stuck unrelated idle musings into the language.
