MY GENERAL VIEW is that Hodgkins behaved badly, and apologized gracelessly (I practically had to nudge him to say something like the right thing). On the other hand, I did not personally feel confident he was as bad as had been alleged, and deplored the ganging up on him. However, I had to admit that his coyness and obstinacy had made matters worse, and therefore I did not feel like complaining about people being sick of him too much. All I asked was the right not to ostracize him myself, without being "beaten upon". Mostly, I have managed to get my wish.

As for X, she offended a lot of people in her time, and apparently managed to get into things more recently. Not having observed the exchanges leading up to more recent breaks, I am not prepared to take sides. What I know is that some of this stuff is dredged up from long ago, and that she has behaved pretty decently to me in the last few months. It has generally been my policy to let by gones be by gones if the person starts behaving better to me. Besides, everything is finite. How much fighting is necessary over a given issue before one moves on? I guess we all have to answer that individually. I just no that to me, too much of it looks like pettiness and excess rancor, all around.

I may have more comments later, but this will do for now.....
