Listening to music is just as important as staying alive?

How about law enforcement? Catching that Washington sniper? If you had to make a choice between spending a limited pot of money to do that or fund a series of symphonies, which would it be?

Art reminds us of what we share with every other human being, over every period of history. It's humanizing. It's the balance to defense/offense spending.
That may be. But staying alive at all has to take precedence.

AND what we're talking about here is the use of GOVERNMENT money. What you choose to do with what is left after taxes is your business. If you wish to spend it on the arts, sports, whatever, that's fine.

But no legitimate argument can be made that either sports (which is where this started) or the arts are a legitimate function of government.
