Absolutistism is a relative thing.

That probably sound confusing but when the sentence popped in my head it was too tempting not to use it. Now I'll explain.

I'm not that absolutist its just that the integrity of the rule of law in general, and the protections of our rights recognized by the constitution in particular, are very important things to me. But I'm not totally absolutist about them. They are principles I think the government should strive for, and strive a lot harder then it is, but I don't think the federal government should be cut in half overnight by getting rid of all of it that is not authorized by the constitution. I also have no objections to certain appropriate steps during times of extreme emergency. So on the constitution I am an absolutist relative to you, but not a supporter of complete absolutism.
