It's racism John... And if you can, in good conscience, defend Belafonte's using such language, then I have to question just where you personally define the line with regard to your prejudice.

And, hello to you Hawk. How is your life going?

As for your question, my own view is that Belafonte did a rather dumb thing politically by criticizing Powell that way, but the view is not all that unusual in some black circles. Not at all unusual for folk to be critical of those in power and if you are black to use that kind of language. I thought Powell handled it well.

As for "my prejudice," I gather you think that folk who don't agree with your view on this are prejudiced.

As for what Belafonte meant and how Powell understood it, I have no serious idea. My guess was that Belafonte did not mean that Powell had not "earned" his place (whoops, my apologies for the double negatives) but rather that Powell had been acting counter to his (Powell's) foreign policy views in order to keep his position in the Bush administration. But that's only a guess.

Both Powell and Belafonte EARNED what they have achieved. And I'm sure Belafonte would concur. But by denying that same right to Powell, he has essentially denigrated his accomplishments to being a mere "uncle-tom" and "token black"..

I fail to see how Belafonte's comment denied any right to Powell. I assume Powell has a fairly thick skin by now and these things don't deny him anything. He may even find them funny.

That damn Belafonte getting uppity eh? I quite liked his songs in my heyday - beats the niggarap style of today which is violent, foul and aggressive nihilism. But I'm going to have to dig out the old LP and get that boy outa my house if he's forgetting his place.

I quite like having my pet house boys and girls. I've got Colin for colinization of Iraq. I've got Condoleezza to arrange condominiums with Russia, China, Japan etc. I've got my tame Thomas Sowell to do my writing for me and he rarely steps over the line, keeping to house rules. He's my boy: jewishworldreview.com

I have my happy Cablinasian to demonstrate golf techniques [though he was scowling in an untoward fashion as he battled his way around Paraparaumu golf course in poor conditions to a place down in the field somewhere]. I've got [had] Michael Jordan to do basket ball for me and had Cassius Clay to defy idiotic militaristic maniacs and demonstrate boxing to a never-repeated level of genius. Maurice Green runs like a jaguar, bearing my name [showing excellent genuflection to we colonial master-race, albeit not totally purely Aryan - it's hard to maintain quality these days when the youngsters lack dedication to standards].

I don't limit myself to ASTM 7 colour types. I also accept lower melanin levels for some jobs such as advising on global financial, political and economic affairs. To show a complete acceptance of a range of houseboys and girls, I use Jews to organize CDMA for me and I let hordes of Chinese manufacture goods at low prices. It's a Crowded House! I've got pet Indians too, coding cyberspace flat out so my cyberphones will deliver data from anywhere to anywhere and do it really quickly and cheaply.

It doesn't really leave much for me to do myself.

I suppose Harry Belafonte was just forgetting himself for a minute. Come on Harry, tug that forelock and do a bit more yodelling. Harry's not a bad guy. I had an Uncle Harry so I guess bearing a family name shows Belafonte is not all bad. Heck, he's even got a French surname. Good bloke! If he'd done something silly and changed it to a Moslem name I'd have been a bit concerned.

I guess I'll keep them on.

I might even have to hijack some of their DNA to splice it into mine to get a bit better sun resistance. This melanoma, basal and squamous cell carinoma is a real pain in the neck! Literally.

Hey, but don't expect me to go nuts. You can keep those poofters [and taigs - just showing off a new word I learned a couple of days ago]. Wops, wogs, wasps, spicks, spacks, honkies, dagoes, spades, kikes, yids, dykes, gooks, cooks, books, looks, hooks, chooks and crooks are dodgy too.

I just like well-trained house-boys. Like Colin.

I'll get one of the boss boys to give Harry a whuppin' to put him in his place.
