Gustave,

"he [Edscharp]seems to support Ariel Sharon's despotic 'right' to subjugate the Arabs with fear and terror.

You slay me. lol.

I've not said a word about Sharon, but you make presumptions about my views on this.

For the record, I am deeply saddened by the violence in the mideast. Unfortunately, the main problem there is the deep seated hatred and distrust on both sides. Both sides were very close to a negotiated solution when Israel was willing to concede about 97% of the Palestinians land claims, but Arafat nixed the deal. I do believe the Israeli's have negotiated in good faith in the past. However, I no longer believe that Arafat has done the same.

I do understand the Israeli point of view. It's not possible to negotiate with an opponent when you are being bombed by the PLO or by radical factions not controlled by the PLO. You can't negotiate without good faith. Thus, unfortunately, you end up with the current Israeli reaction. No responsible government can sit idly while their people are being killed.

The difference between the Palestinians and Israelis? I don't doubt for a minute that the Israeli's would stop their violence if the Palestinians would stop theirs. The reverse is not true. Arafat is either unwilling or unable to stop the violence emanating from the Palestinian side.

Thus, regrettably, the impasse.

As I said, I would love to see the violence stop, but I don't see how the Israelis (or any government) can just unilaterally cease military operations in the face of an intractable and unrelenting enemy that wants the killing to continue.

I still accuse you of being the ultimate hypocrite. Your reference to Israel as "judeofascists" is a clear indication of some deep seated bias, and I certainly haven't seen you refer to Saddam Hussein or Arafat as "islamicfascists".
