i did not say "equivilent"

i am saying "conscience" and fanaticism are not mutually exclusive..... which seemed to be what you are saying.

the reason you are having such difficulty seeing how it "can be " at the core of fanaticism is because the "conscience" that dictates such behaviour is at such variance with your own....as it is with mine.

to use another example....abortion..."moral doctrine" for some according to their belief structure prohibits it....and for some..."moral doctrine" would permit the killing of abortion providers or destruction of clinics as a means of preservation of innocent life.

you simply cannot argue that these people are devoid of conscience...they have copious amounts of it....

their perception is that of doing a lesser evil for a greater good...

in other words the end justifies the means....which would would not be at variance to their idea of a principled life.
