The dictionary is not a substitute for philosophy.

Huh?

The definition of terms is a pre-essential to philosophy. If we don't agree on terms, we can't discuss.

So the dictionary is not necessarily a substitute for philosophy, but it is a precursor. If you don't start with a dictionary, you can't get anywhere.

ROFL
the dictionary is however the place we go to find out what words mean. If you are going to use words in a new and different way, you cannot expect other people to understand you. If I define "chair" as being "that thing which supports your moral development" you may have trouble understanding me, even if I try to argue it is a philosophical difference. All it really is, is me using a word in a way that most people do not.
