The Canadian Senate has NO power. They are appointed "for life" by governments and they merely review legislation and comment on it and other matters as a sober second thought. They can delay passage of bills for a time as they consider them but they have no interruptive powers. The Senate is always a subject of consternation amoungst the CDN citizenry because they are appointed for life (as vacancies occur) by the then elected party and have no real power. Every few years there is talk of eliminating them and then the subject falls by the wayside until the next time.
