Not True. I've been to UK, France, Spain, Switzerland, Germany (within the last 2 years). Nowhere did this happen.

The US is one of the few countries in the world who really opens things up the way we do. In Europe, you have to give your passport to the clerk when you stay in a hotel, you need to supply addresses and they check.


I've been to Germany and Austria, and I NEVER gave my passport to any clerk. I would've been pretty darn indignant if they would've asked for it too. No way, Jose.
