Bill, cool idea. We'll put trade restrictions on the USA to match their bans and taxes on our exports.

Just kidding. I don't advocate tit for tat trade nonsense. That's just make-work for government bureaucrats.

If the USA doesn't want to buy our steel or sheep or wood or something, it's their loss. We'll sell it to China. That means that we won't have any US$ to buy stuff from the USA, so we'll have to buy stuff from China instead, or maybe from Korea or Japan or somebody who will accept Chinese currency.

The outcome will be that the USA gets to pay a high price for their own sheep, steel and stuff and have trouble selling their cars and stuff to us.

I hope you understand that the USA isn't a free trade supporter. That's just cant. The USA is an agricultural subsidizer and import preventer. Sure, other countries are too.

Trades a bit dicier since we're talking about people's jobs.. and people vote... thus, it's more politically difficult to implement.

But with regard to travel permissions, I would say it's a "no-brainer".... You want to travel in the US.. then your country should welcome Americans to travel in your country...

It's called mutual respect..

the US GDP would be vastly different than it is today.

It has it's attractions, but I think the best thing we could do, (that will never happen) is to remove all trade barriers no matter what the other countries do. We end up with the best deals, become the most competitive, and everybody else ends up sucking hind tit. If you don't believe it, don't worry, no one can sell it.
