Lindy, arbitrary detention, being held incommunicado, with no legal representation, no habeas corpus, no family contact are NOT the way to run an empire. That's the way to run a dog eat dog world.

The USA can't reasonably whine about human rights in China when they are developing Americans and Aliens as the two divisions in the world. Actually, we don't hear so much about human rights in China these days. The Moslem freedom fighters in western China aren't so popular in Washington now. Nor are the Chechen Head-Hackers.

Sure, the Guantanamo Bay prisoners were supposedly Enemy Combatants and I think I'd do the same with them. There is NOT yet an American Empire and it still IS a dog eat dog world. So dogs can't whine if they end up in a Cuban cage. I'd rather be there than in a Taleban or Saudi prison. I would not want to be in Saddam's torture chambers for all the tea in China.

Good for the USA on their handling of the Guantanamo prisoners. Building an empire, or getting Bill Clinton to get the UN reorganisation up to scratch, is going to be quite a project. It's off to a reasonable start.

I think the USA will benefit from a better UN rather than being a big dog in the dog eat dog world. The USA has the most to gain. The big fellas benefit from civilisation more than those at the bottom of the heap, counterintuitive though that might seem. That's because they have the most to lose.

They think they can stay top dog, because they are the biggest, richest and toughest. But with the most to lose, as Louis the something found, he ended up losing his head when the mob arrives at the door. Staying barricaded in the castle behind a moat isn't really an option.

Bring on Bill!
