KLP, There was an article in the Tampa Trib this morning that may tell the tale of Miami/Dade county for those that are not familiar with the area. I tried to find a link on their web page, but couldn't find it. Am quoting the main points below.

"It's easy to blame management when elections go awry, but consider the daunting task of running the 2002 general election in Miami/Dade County:950,000 registered voters, 550 polling places and ballots in three languages that run 10 or 12 computer screens, depending on local issues.

Besides contests for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and commissioner of agriculture, Miami/Dade has three congressional, four state Senate, and 14 House races, various judicial and municipal elections, 10 state constitutional amendments, and county and local character questions.

This will be the first time all county ballots are in English, Spanish, and Hatian Creole....."

That gives the election in that area a bit of a unique concept. I have had many Hispanic friends for all of my life, and know that if any Anglo moves to Mexico to live, and make a living, they must learn to be fluent in Spanish, but here in America, Hispanics, Haitians, and many other foreigners from different language backgrounds expect everthing to be laid out on a silve platter for them, including forsaking the English language just because they do not want to learn English. We bend over too far backwards to please these people. They want all the goodies America has to offer, but don't want to change anything in their own lives to get them. They have it better than the rest of us when it comes to fitting into the existing society.
