My guess is that Bibi is pricing himself too high -- much as Sharon might like to form an "understanding" against the formation of a Palestinian state, he is not going to do while GW Bush says differently. Sharon has a pretty strong hand too, he doesn't really need Bibi as FM, since he could always appoint Dan Meridor or Natan Sharansky. Bibi would be an asset; he explains things very well, especially to Congressional Republicans, but he's not essential. I think if Bibi prices himself out of a job, it is going to be Bibi who looks petty for it, not Arik. ____________________________________________________ In interview, Netanyahu refines demands from Sharon By THE JERUSALEM POST INTERNET STAFF Former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated Sunday evening his conditional acquiescence to Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's offer to man the position of Foreign Minister in the new, narrow government. Speaking on Israel Television's Channel One News Sunday evening, Netanyahu made public the rest of his demands to Sharon in their earlier conversation. He said in order to for him to take the Foreign Affairs portfolio, Sharon would have to announce his agreement on three points: The removal of Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat from his office, a move on which Sharon and himself were of the same opinion, he claimed; A clear outlining of the future geographic positioning of the security barrier between Israel and the PA; The "understanding" that a Palestinian state would not be established. However, he added that he had made clear to Sharon that without the option of new elections soon, all of these demands were meaningless. Asked what brought about his change of heart concerning the manning of the position of Foreign Minister, following media reports during the weekend that claimed he was likely not to take up this office, Netanyahu said he had thought things over thoroughly.jpost.com
