They could have asked me to work it out for them! I can tell you that it must have been a helluva job to vaporize 3.6 drums of that stuff in a period of 5 -10 minutes. In fact, I can't remember anyone ever before having tried something like this although I'm sure most people have thought about it or seen it in movies. For that, alone, the Russians must be awarded 10 out of 10. The Russians also had the advantage of knowing the actual size of the building. I had to guess it. Another critical factor is the rate of atmospheric turnover through the air-conditioner although it does seem, in retrospect, that that wasn't a problem. For what it's worth, there is a limit to the speed at which the anesthetic drug could be poured into the aircon because, if the concentration was too strong in the atmosphere, the terrorists would have smelled it and/or started coughing and thus realized what was going on. That's a similar problem to what happens when trying to anesthetize someone in the OR by an inhalation method alone. Also, if the rate of administration is not fast enough the process would have taken too long and the rate of elimination of the drug into the body fat and excretion etc could exceed the rate of uptake. So because there is, in fact, an optimum rate for the administration of the anesthetic drug there is actually a considerable finesse even to the performance of a task as crude and as brutal as this seems to be. Fortunately, because of the fact that the theatre must have been stinking from all the excrement etc, the smell of the anesthetic gas would have been obscured. It's my bet that they had a very smart guy running the show --- in fact, he may not even have been a Russian --- nor even in Moscow! That's possibly a reason why they didn't know what to tell the local doctors about resuscitating the hostages. >I suppose the key to getting a reputation as a decent prophet is to make outrageous predictions Like Nostradamus?
