Those kind of shorts are hedged.

Frankly it always seemed to me that those kind of shorts caused or took place at the same time as the market moving up.

They get larger as the market moves up and get smaller as it moves down .. and they don't get squeezed .. they just are ..

The short positions in the QQQ has not been a reliable contrarian indicator. Actually it appears to be smart money if anything. Last winter the QQQ short position hit all time highs just before we carved 55% of the NDX. We saw the short position decrease on the way down.

Now its ramping up again. I ain't gonna fade them.
