Japans earthquake. Not too earthshattering...oops forgive the pun.

What's interesting, and I'm not a geologist, is that many of these recent powerful quakes seem to be centered very deep in the earth's crust...

And that's make me wander if these movements will eventually be magnified in the shallower layers as more stress is placed upon their faultlines.

Also, I wonder if such deep seimiscity is indicative of volcanic activity working its way up towards the surface?
