Yes. And I would think the monarch would be quite cautious about taking serious action such as withholding assent. If the "colonists" felt strongly about the matter, what is to stop them from withdrawing from the Commonwealth? It has been done before.

I just remembered what Mq said about the Brits nudging NZ out of its colonial status. Belize had a similar situation. Britain finally had to say "WE'RE LEAVING!" At that point, the Belizeans extracted a promise from the British to intervene if Guatemala attacked and tearfully let them go.

The country has many people who sound like and look like they're British. Except for one thing: They're black!

And they have the misfortune of having become a major transshipment point for drugs bound to the US which has caused crime to skyrocket.
