Searle,

Keep in mind that should Bush not be reelected, he still retains office until late January 2005 and also until late January 2009 should he be reelected due to usual timing of inauguration.

Some conspiracy theorists with apocalyptic leanings have been known to hook up Revelations 13.3 (which seemingly predicts a world leader miraculously surviving an assassin's wound to the head) with the presidential curse.

If Bush takes a hit it should be proof enough that he didn't conspire to destroy the US. The Islamic extremists have the most reason to get at Bush...not? (Although I do admit that various homeless people, illegal aliens, and assorted NWO types might be tempted to take a potshot.) In any event, 2003 could prove to be unsettling. And if somebody in the international limelight survives a shot to the head and thereafter returns to politics, I'll take notice. I point out the Sirhan Sirhan was born in Jerusalem. I know one of Sirhan Sirhan's former parole officers. He sued the prison for the right to a daily toothbrush and my friend testified in favor of the prison so Sirhan had to make due with the monthly brush.

On foreign aid, the Peace Corps does do a worthwhile job in helping poor people build up local infrastructure necessary for underprivileged populations to sustain themselves.
