PeopleSoft Selects Vancouver for North American Support and Development Centre Thursday November 7, 3:00 pm ET Company Invests CAD$20 Million in Region VANCOUVER, Nov. 7 /CNW/ - PeopleSoft Inc. (Nasdaq: PSFT - News) today announced the opening of a North American support and development centre in Vancouver. The Company will invest CAD$20 million in 2002 in the facility and an initial staff of 75 people. PeopleSoft also plans to aggressively expand the centre over the next several years. PeopleSoft President and CEO Craig Conway announced the centre at a ceremony at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT). British Columbia Premier Gordon Campbell and other government and civic officials attended the event, at which Conway presented a $4 million software grant to BCIT President Tony Knowles. The grant, part of PeopleSoft's On Campus Program, will provide business students and future software developers with real-world experience in using the latest enterprise software. "PeopleSoft selected Vancouver after an extensive search," said Conway. "Vancouver is the ideal location for our new centre because of its highly skilled workforce and strong commitment to IT education, research and training. Additionally, the British Columbia government's progressive policies for encouraging economic development make the province a compelling place to do business." "We are proud that such an internationally renowned leader in enterprise application software has selected British Columbia as an area of opportunity," said Rick Thorpe, Minister of Competition, Science and Enterprise. "We're confident that PeopleSoft's commitment will resonate with other leading tech companies and continue to add to British Columbia's growing tech community. Today's announcement is testament to the fact that B.C. is, once again, open for business and investment." BCIT President Knowles said the software grant will help create more than 15 courses for students in both the business and IT curricula. "The 'real world' knowledge and experience they will gain using PeopleSoft software will help them enormously when they're vying for highly competitive jobs," Knowles said. Local business leaders and PeopleSoft customers London Drugs and Crystal Decisions attended the event and discussed the benefits of using PeopleSoft applications to improve their business processes. Opening in February 2003, PeopleSoft's new North American support and development centre will be located at 505 Burrard Street in Vancouver's business centre.
