I haven't seen the turnout numbers for young voters, poor voters or minority voters for this election. Nevertheless, those who choose not to participate in the process should not be pitied or even lamented. It's their choice, just as it is mine and yours. To blame it on access to education or other societal factors of demotivation only puts them in victim mode.

As for representation, my congressman is Barney Frank. Think my point of view is being represented fairly in congress?

I pick door number 2.

"You would care to argue that a populace that will lock up a huge percentage of its citizens for drug "crimes" isn't a police state?"

A meth lab was busted here last week. The four year old who was living in the house was able to draw a perfect diagram of the process for producing the meth. The deadly chemicals were all out in the open where the kid and his baby sister roamed freely throughout the day. The healthcare system can't keep up with the need for tax paid rehab shelters. Every violent crime, crime of passion, and crimes of theft statistic is heavily influenced by perpetrators on illegal drugs. Legitimate social ills such as obesity, compulsion, sloth, depression, etc. are considered high priority for the health care industry.

Fat, lazy, irresponsible, maniacs and the cops are not an absolute match, but when you add social services and the health care system you get close.
