Did Biography.com fall for a pack of lies or are they complicit, then? They fell for a pack of lies. He was assigned to the Guard only on paper. When Bush Jr was a candidate several newspapers tracked down other members of the air guard stationed in that base. These were people who would have had to deal with Bush Jr on a day to day basis and none of them could remember him being there. The newspapers were never able to find definitive proof (e.g. a letter saying "George W. Bush: on permanent 'leave' due to political connections signed Chairman, Joint Chief of Staff") but all the evidence is there and it strongly suggests that he never set foot in the Guard.
