Then, when the bozos finally wake up, they are outraged and go after the easiest, most visible targets. This is what will happen to Bush in 2004, IMO. Just as joe sixers are finally awakening to the ass kicking the market gave them and realize what it means, so too will the steamrolling of the courts and protections for the little guy by the all-Republican-all-the-time-government come into focus over the next few years (thanks for your assistance in this matter, Nader). Top that off with the Jim Willie meets Richard Russell economy, and the mood will be quite sour. The demos on the other hand are going to have to wake up to the fact that 20 years of a "the gov't is your enemy" media campaign have had an impact on the wide swath of middle america voters who could otherwise be part of their natural constituency (the wealthy elite have always seen it that way, and knew their position could only be secured by convincing un-natural allies to vote with them otherwise). The real purpose of the democratic party is not to tax and spend, but to maintain the last shield against a state sponsored corporate cabal merging of purpose, as seems to now be germinating (do you find the merging of media conglomerates and controlling of the news as comforting as the republicans seem to ?) In this regard, the demos need to field moderate candidates who emphasize personal responsibility, Moderate tax cuts targeted to the middle class and small businesses, and a safety shield for the poor in the most dire of circumstances, but not unnecessarily generous to those not truly in need (including corporate welfare, chiselers, and pork barrel projects). Then, they can fulfill their real purpose which the republicans never will on their own volition, which is to stop abuse by corporations, accountants, and wall street in matters pertaining to financial ripoffs, abuse of the health care system, wanton environmental carnage, and providing educational opportunity for all. Of course, this pipe dream probably requires that campaign finance reform actually work. I copied this following post from late Tuesday night from a mindless sheep who represents (to me) the worst of mass media induced learning. Unfortunately, he's probably at the high end on that learning curve - those who just sit at home and parrot the mainstream pundits (if they even bother following what's going on) will probably make up the tidal wave of angry voters in '04, along with any of the disgusted critical thinkers who still think it's worth their while to punch a ballot. Here's the little gem of which I speak : Tax cuts are good for all... Well, it's looking like the Republicans will pull off the unexpected -- just as I suspected. You know what that means ... Bush will get his tax cuts and other economy stimulus bills. Additionally (though I know most others don't believe it) with today's #s and the Republicans with the majority in both houses I think there will be no rate cut. Throw in the resignation of Harvey Pitt and you have a serious market rocket. Pres. Bush is a good-hearted, altruistic man and people in this country know it. Gold is fading; the USD is rising; the futures markets are responding My prayer was, is and will be: "Regardless of political affiliation, Lord give us men and women of integrity -- individuals who will lead justly, honorably and with compassion." It's a great country and I'm very proud to be an American!
