Pearly_Button, But that is in California. A cup of coffee cost 10 times more in Californian than it does anywhere else. A goodly portion of those capital expenses were for defendant procedures. No state should be required to pay more than a reasonable amount for the defense of a defendant that cannot pay for the trial about his own crime. Other statistics have shown that the annual cost of keeping a prisoner in the penitentiary for over 20 years, is much higher than the cost of execution.

btw it takes lots of dollars to put a convict to death in the USA

We have let the Lawyers and the anti-death penalty people pass too many laws that run the cost up. To me, the reason for the death penalty is simple. Revenge. The good old "Mosaic Code." I don't give a damn about deterrence. If you Murder someone, you ought to die.
