My current system is corrupt. I cannot even scan / defrag. I tried to upgrade I.E. to 6.0. . . it made things worse.

I am really SICK with the way Microsoft systems control themselves in assuming things will and should be the way they expect them to be and, if they're not, just give up and quit.

In short, their Logic SUCKS!

There are so many applications that need the Microsoft Internet Explorer, it's pittiful. . . when it goes down, many other things go down. . . For example, I can't even run the test suggested in the previous message to checkout my system for XP. I can't even go to My Computer and look at the Control Panel!

I'm surprised I can even get back onto the Internet and even use email! (Thank God!)

My system, most of the time, will not even shut down properly. . . it goes through all of the motions of the shutdown right up to dropping the power relay (to really power off) then just hangs up (goes out to lunch) forcing me to literaly "pull the plug". The Restart acts very similar. . . gets right at the end but will not reboot.
I said "most of the time". . . there are times it will work!

I upgraded my memory from 64mb to 512mb and it seems to have helped the system a lot. . . and is much faster than before. . . My system does run up to a point. . . I can't even check my memory to see if it all is being used.
(Yes, I am very close to losing my mind [real memory])

I was able to go to MSDOS and copy documents, spreadsheets, pictures, etc. to my CD ROM so I wouldn't lose everything. . . but as Murphy's law goes, I probably have forgotten some things.

That's what I'm faced with. . . . not much fun!

Thank you,
Joe
