That's a circular answer: are the Europeans passionate because it's covered or is it covered because they are passionate?

The Kurds are more numerous by far and closer to Europe, a big concern for NATO member and would-be EU member Turkey. The Maronites are also closer to Europe (slightly), and suffering from persection, occupation, AND they are Christians. So why no passion in either case here?

Turkish occupied Cyprus is closer. And the Turkish occupation has real similarities to the Israeli occupation of the West Bank. Hundreds of thousands of refugees, settlements of mainland Turks on areas formerly occupied by Greek Cypriots, UN resolutions condemning the occupation, occasional shooting deaths of Greek Cypriot protestors. Yet you never hear about this in the press. You don't see demonstrations on college campuses.
