Fear is an excellent survival trait. So is pain. Not that more is better! Just that the ability to perceive risk and pain and have some idea of what to do about them is good. I dug an underground bomb shelter as a child [but only got a foot or two down before I hit lava - didn't have a clue about overpressure either]. As years went by, the Cuban missile crisis was frightening [the world didn't seem very big to me - now I realize we were a long way from the action]. Etc... Mq
