Just reread your note.....

Maybe you could help me understand what you meant...Didn't mean to misunderstand....Yes, the AIDS epidemic is terrible. Period. However, most people who contract the disease had some possible way to avoid getting the disease.

The events of 9-11, both before (the USS Cole, etc) and after (Bali, etc) were caused by OTHER parties who tried, and succeeded in killing innocent people, probably even people who had AIDS....They didn't seem to care who they killed, or if those people had cancer, AIDS, pneumonia, or anything else, as long as Americans were in the group.

I really think that is the difference and why ALL countries everywhere in the world that actually care about their citizens and visitors should be trying to stop these madmen...

Also, I'm curious what the returning NZ troops found in East Timor while they were there...What was the situation?

Really, in the grand scheme of things, this is not even as bad as the AIDS epidemic, which, while terrible for those affected and damaging to the rest of us, is not as bad as wars and famines of even recent times. What makes it so horrific is that it is human malevolence and live on tv. If we add up the mess and compare it with other messes, it's no big deal. Just another thing to deal with each day.

We should probably worry more about tuberculosis than Osama and his Moslem Head-Hacker mates.

Try having a nightmare about antibiotic resistant tuberculosis. Throw in a meteorite for fun [much, much more terrible than Osama can be even in your wildest dreams - unless he controls a meteorite and deflects it, or them, into the Atlantic and Pacific.

I think Condoleezza is going to have to wave a stick in East Timor soon. NZ troops have arrived home today and apparently the Moslems are not as nice as they were before 911 [which wasn't especially civilized]. She's well-informed about East Timor [if I remember rightly] so will have a good grasp of the situation. Megawati and Mahathir don't seem too worried about Moslem terrorism. Maybe Condi can explain some house rules to them.
