CB, Try the last passages of Tchiakovsky's 1812 Overture, with actual cannons and bell, at full volume. That can scare even the loudest of the boomers. :^)

CB, a restaurant is a private place, even if the proprietor invites selected members of the public to enjoy the facilities. I don't see why a business proprietor can't run their show how they see fit between consenting adults.

I hope the Catholic church has stopped that silly smoke waving stuff, which is polluting the air even worse than cigarettes, which at least are filtered first through the tobacco and filter and then, mostly, through the smoker's lungs.

How about those disgusting diesels? The smoke in a restaurant is a self-selected pollutant for those choosing to enter.

Freedom is not a bad thing. I know that the totalitarian USA is increasingly doing away with freedom, but it's still not a bad idea. It wouldn't be so bad if it was just the USA, but such habit-forming ideas spread to far away places such as Kiwiland, where Nico-Nazis are stomping around whining like a fleet of 747s about people sucking smoke into their lungs. We have nearly everything banned unless it is specifically approved beforehand by four main government bureaucrats; Department of Conservation, Resource Management Act Local Authoritarians, Maori Mythologists and Koha Collectors, Police. Then there are the "health" authorities, the safety bureaucrats etc, etc, etc, Land Transport Safety Authority - who collect millions from "dangerously" speeding people who do more than 30 kph for example.

If you are somewhere where somebody is blowing smoke around and it's an actual public place, that is actually owned by the public for public purposes, carry an aerosol of deodorant, or fly spray, and spray that around. For added effect, you could carry a spray of propane and light it! Lots of fun!

Hi CobaltBlue; Re: "... but nothing compares to the mess that tobacco chewers make, dirty ropy tarry saliva everywhere."

I once worked at a place where, for some odd reason, all the technicians chewed tobacco. They had the habit of spitting into soft drink cans. Every now and again, someone would grab a sip from the wrong can.

If I were banning things, I'd ban artificial fingernails with little designs on them...please add black and purple fingernail color to that list.
