Remember when we helped Afghanistan purge Russian troops. The US got no credit for that.

I think there is little doubt that Afghanistan knows today who is responsible for eliminating the Taliban, however. I don't think this means they'll worship the USA forever, but they were appreciative and showed it at the time. In Afghanistan, it is a little much to expect that these people, who STILL have nothing in their lives, should rejoice because ONE of their problems is elimniated by USA. Iraq is a different situation; the Iraqi people will thrive once Saddam is gone...

Ultimately, it is not their appreciation we're after, however. I'm a lot more interested in the benefits to the rest of the world.

Nah, they will just credit Allah and still see the presence of the infidels as a bad thing.

It will be worst. It will confirm what AlQueda tells them, which is that the infidels plan on occupying their holy land and they will support and enjoin more terror against us.
