"Lolita" is a great book. I've read it 3 times, at different stages in my life.

It meant something totally different each time. His other writings just don't have the same punch for me. "Laughter in the Dark" isn't bad.

Didn't he teach at some girl's college for umpteen years?

Hello carranza2, I ask potential clients >>"What keeps you awake, if anything?"<<,

... and I sometimes get paid for their troubles:0)

Sleep is important for me:

<<Vladimir Nabokov>> I read the book, Lolita, and appreciate the thoughts and sentiment and humor.

<<He went from the highest highs, to the lowest lows, and was through it all one of the happiest human beings imaginable. So long as he could chase a butterfly or two, scribble a little, and enjoy the company of his wife and son, he was deliriously happy>>

... I was raise in an environment of privilege until age 7 (spent Summer in Summer Palace travelchinaguide.com – the little island travelchinaguide.com in the middle of the man-made lake), and then my family were ‘affected’ by the Great Proletariat Culture Revolution, sent to the depth of Henan Province many hours by donkey cart to the nearest railhead.

Money did matter then:

<<Money didn't really seem to matter to him. Always lived in the absolute present. Wrote Lolita, got rich again, lived in a fancy hotel in Montreux the rest of his days. Incredible story>>

… Yup, I understand.

<<Something kept him up at night, though I think that he probably loved the fact that he was alive so much that he hated to sleep.

I aim for that kind of insomnia, but I'm not there yet>>

… Come on carranza2, we all were there once before, and only such a short time ago

Do not tell me you already forgot those sleepless nights and energized days?
