OK, but the point I was trying to make was in opposition to LindyBill, who was arguing in favor of profiling and against random searches.

My point is that if terrorists know that we are merely profiling, but not doing random searches, they will use non-Middle Easterners to carry bombs, willingly or not.

So we need to do both, profiling AND random searches.

The problem with the profiling is that the airport personnel are not able to fine tune on the profile. Profiling wouldn't have caught John Walker Lindh, Richard Reid or Jose Padilla. Profiling does hang up people named Arun, Ganesh and Arjuna, and people named Singh, who are very unlikely to be Muslims.

I doubt very much that your typical airport security guard can explain the difference between Muslims, Hindus, and Sikhs.
