Ted,

First, the right refuses to hear the left's viewpoint...
Secondly, the right seems to think that by going around blowing up the planet...
Thirdly, apparently the left can see both sides of the conflict whereas the right can not or will not...

I thought it was the other way around. Oh well.

And its why my questions never get answered. I am very concerned......the US continues down a very wrong path for which we will pay dearly. Worse, Bush has a lot of the people behind him......and that will emboldened him. And let me make clear, the consequences of what we do now may not be felt for several years or even more but felt they will be.

Obviously, the consequences have to be considered, positive and negative as a result of any action. The positives need to far outweigh the negative, from American self interest first, and from the point of view of our world standing.

Which brings me right back to our ill fated bombing of Yugoslavia, where there was nothing to gain for the US. Our world standing suffered greatly, as our relations with Russia and China reached all time low. There is no re-payment from the punk Schroeder or Chirac, who, together with Blair were the most gung ho. I think Bush amazingly managed to normalize the relations with Russia, but some resentment will remain. I personally know a lot of Russians, Ukrainians and other Eastern Europeans, and I can tell you about the universal disillusionment with America over the attack of Yugoslavia. Even among the people who where the most pro-American. It went largely under the radar in the US, and you are the perhaps the best example of how ignorant the Americans can be about what's going on in the world. I was there right after the bombing stopped, and I have seen anti-American graffiti all over the place. These, mind you, are places where there is not a lot of graffiti, and people were never anti-American - this is not San Francisco.

Anyway, with the Chinese it will take a generation, or we can hope that the Chinese will be as forgetful as many here in the US, and the wound will heal quicker.

Anyway, as you said, there are consequences. But if there is something important that needs to be achieved, that outweighs the consequences, then we may have to proceed, and deal with the consequences. As I have posted, I was not very gung ho about going to war with Iraq (if it ever was the plan), and I am more comfortable with the deliberate approach Bush administration has shown. Very different from damn the Congress, damn the UN, let's bomb Belgrade approach.

Anyway, what do you mean by "the US continues down a very wrong path for which we will pay dearly". What would you have done differently?

Joe
