Reaper and all, please look at latest dispatch from ContraryInvestor.com (copied with their permission). They are quite bearish on US economy and on stocks valuations especially. In this piece they analyze the stuff that can go right in US economy. I found it very interesting.

From RDN 10-Q
biz.yahoo.com
PRIMARY INSURANCE
Alt A:
September 30 June 30 September 30
($ thousands, unless specified otherwise) 2002 2002 2001
Number of insured loans 86,576 85,018 48,564
Number of loans in default 4,767 3,790 1,637
Percentage of total loans in default 5.51% 4.46% 3.37%

From last year they increased ALT A loans by 78% but only 1.8% in the last quarter.
Is that a sign of a credit withdrawal from ALT A creditors or something else?

MTG 10 Q doesn't have this detailed information

General consideration: they are having trouble with houses appreciating at a record pace,
what is going to happen if houses stop appreciating or, god forbid, start declining?
