Fruited Spanish Cream

2 envelopes unflavored gelatin
3/4 cup sugar, divided
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 eggs, separated
4 cups milk
2 teaspoons vanilla
Strawberries, washed, hulled, & halved
Fresh orange sections
Banana slices

Mix together gelatin, 1/4 cup sugar, and salt in saucepan. Beat together egg yolks and milk; stir into gelatin mixture. Place over low heat and cook, stirring constantly until gelatin dissolves and mixture thickens slightly, 8-10 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla. Chill, stirring occasionally, until mixture thickens enough to mound slightly when dropped from a spoon. Beat egg whites until stiff but not dry; gradually add remaining 1/2 cup sugar and beat until very stiff. Fold into gelatin mixture. Turn into 2-quart bowl and chill until set. Garnish with fruit and serve with additional fruit.
