Found it ... printed it (in three zoomed levels of pics) and, just out of habit, as the downstairs machine belongs to my wife, and realizing that she isn't punctual about checking for updates, and feeling as did you, tc, that it Never hurts to have the latest updates* I ran Windows Update ..... Gateway P4 on WinXP home ..... found one security update and one driver update were available ... so .... having a few minutes to spare I downloaded the security update ..... shut down and restarted the box .... everything fine ... downloaded the NVidia driver update, as the Gateway is using an NVidia card running a flatscreen monitor .... everything NOW is NOT FINE ... DAMN screen is black ... NO pic ..... sheeeeeesh .... Gateway logo and WinXPhome logo show great ..then as the little music song she has playing to signify windows is loaded ..... *BLACK ---- nothing ----- I'm a dead man* As this is the only box running XP (my four are running 98se and ME) ..... I am NOT too familiar with XP and failed in four or five attempts to get it to load up in SAFE mode so I could delete the new driver and hopefully regain usable status for the now useless machine in my wife's office and she doesn't know about it YET as she has told me to stay off her machine and to leave it alone as I'm always tinkering with and changing stuff on mine and she says to leave hers ALONE .... but did I listen -------- NO, for I am a complete IDIOT and have just proved it AGAIN....... LOL HELP HELP PLEASE*
